Blizzard Details New Account-Wide Legacy System for WoW: Forever
Blizzard has revealed the Legacy System, a new account-wide horizontal progression system coming to World of Warcraft: Forever, featuring 65 challenges, three perk trees, and cosmetic rewards. The system lets players unlock character perks and collectibles by completing challenges across classes, tradeskills, PvP, dungeons, and raids without requiring alts.
How the Legacy System Works
According to Blizzard, players gain access to the Legacy System upon earning their first Legacy Point, typically when a character reaches level 25, hits 150 skill in a primary tradeskill, or explores the full world map. The system has three parts: Legacy Challenges, Legacy Perks, and Legacy Rewards. There are 65 total challenges across six categories—Classes, Tradeskills, PvP, Adventure, Dungeons, and Raids—each granting one account-wide Legacy Point usable on any non-Hardcore character.
Spending Points on Perks
Blizzard says each character can spend Legacy Points independently across three perk trees: Professions, Adventure, and Resourcefulness, covering effects like faster tradeskill gains, cheaper vendor prices, extra rested experience, and reduced durability loss on death. At launch, spending is capped at 16 points per character, though a single character could theoretically earn up to 29 points without rolling alts. Blizzard states this cap is meant to keep new players from falling too far behind veterans.
Cosmetic Rewards and Hardcore Plans
Per Blizzard, four Legacy Rewards are available at launch: the Replica Ironforge Air Rifle toy, a Spectral Bear Cub pet, a Spectral Bear Tabard, and the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount, with more planned for future content updates. Blizzard also confirmed that Hardcore mode, not available at launch, will later add 12 Hardcore-specific Legacy Challenges, since standard non-Hardcore progress won't carry over and PvP challenges can't be completed in Hardcore.
